During my time as a cub copy editor, I gained knowledge of AP style and had a first glimpse at what it is like to contribute to the newspaper. This experience allowed me to endure the fast-paced nature of the Redwood Bark and how to efficiently edit, critique, and lead. 

As a reporter, my job consisted of covering the happenings of my community by publishing two stories each cycle. I learned the most throughout this time period by gaining the knowledge of what it takes to have a leadership position, and most importantly, how to cover stories effectively and efficiently. 

The games section has been a part of The Bark for two years now and continues to excel. Considering that this was my first leadership position as a section editor I was able to pick up skills such as meeting specific deadlines, tech skills, InDesign experience and more collaboration with my peers and co-editor. I was able to advance from my past position which gave me the excitement and encouragement to continue to grow as a student journalist.

Team Building

Alot of the Redwood Bark is discussion-based. Whether that is through class discussions, communication through cell phone, paste-up, collaborations, and spending a little extra time to perfect a design or story. A large chunk of my experience on staff has been through interviewing sources and writing articles, but a majority of it has also been through a significant amount of team building and communication. I have been able to collaborate in large and small groups, with my co-editor, sketch-out and paste-up, strengthening my team building not just in the Redwood Bark room but beyond.
